Independent scrutiny panels
Independent Scrutiny Panels were convened by the Scottish Government to consider proposals for major changes in local NHS services in Scotland between 2007 and 2009.
The aim of independent scrutiny was to provide assurance to the public that all of the factors relevant to proposed service changes had been explored thoroughly and fully taken into account, therefore helping to maintain confidence in the change process.
To date, 3 panels have been set up to consider proposals for changes to services in 4 areas:
- Accident and Emergency services in NHS Ayrshire & Arran
- Accident and Emergency services in NHS Lanarkshire
- NHS services in the Clyde area
- redesign of healthcare in NHS Dumfries & Galloway
Since 2010, our service change team has provided proactive and ongoing advice and support to NHS boards and health and social care partnerships that are considering changes to their services. This was in response to learning from the 3 Independent Scrutiny Panels
