Dementia in Hospitals and Virtual Visiting

Event date: 3 December 2020

Event time: 10:00 to 11:30 am

Healthcare Improvement Scotland – Community Engagement and the ihub’s Focus on Dementia portfolio hosted a webinar for staff working in hospitals who are caring for people who have dementia. The purpose of this webinar was to share examples of good practice in Person-Centred Virtual Visiting, to enable people with dementia to have virtual visits and keep in contact with their carers and families when they are in hospital.

During the webinar we heard from Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Consultants who:

  • provided an overview of their experience of introducing Person-Centred Virtual Visiting,
  • outlined practical and technical issues, and
  • described the positive impact Virtual Visiting has had for patients, loved ones, and staff.

Attendees also found out more about the national work to support Person-Centred Virtual Visiting across all in-patient facilities in Scotland and discussed personal experiences to help share learning and good practice.
